Sports 4 Tots beliefs and ethos:
Please familiarise yourself with our beliefs, ethos and working practices to ensure you are working together with the coach to get the most from every lesson for all children.
- Everyone can play and is included irrespective of ability, gender, race, disability or beliefs.
- Sport is fun and should always be fun, that’s why children start to play.
- Competition is a part of sport and children must learn to win and lose. However, it should not be the overriding factor in why they take part. Fun and enjoyment are the most important elements to ensure they continue to participate.
- Mistakes are ok, they are part of learning. Children should not be afraid of failure or making mistakes and they should not be criticised for making them but encouraged to learn from them.
- Always be positive about a child’s efforts and never show negativity towards a child’s mistakes (even in a sarcastic or joking way as this can be misunderstood). Negativity can have a detrimental effect on confidence.
- Let them play. It’s there game and their time to play so please refrain from coaching and shouting from the side-lines during games as this can become confusing for a child, we believe that the children should discover and make mistakes for themselves.
- Our coaches are approachable at all times should you have any questions or concerns.
- The journey home from sports practice or matches has been highlighted as an important part of learning and development. Parents and carers should refrain from negativity and try to focus on the positives. Children should be encouraged to analyse their own performance and think about what they have done or achieved or what they might like to achieve next time.
